Since our inception we have gone through many transformations and two studio moves, it has been an incredibly rewarding but exhausting few years and we are now very excited to announce our relocated to our permanent home in a fabulous Victorian school in Abbeymount! Our new premises have the space to welcome many more talented makers to the studios and deliver more projects in partnership with community groups, most importantly they give us room to grow and develop.
Everything we have achieved since has been possible due to the incredible hard work of all our residents, the generosity of volunteers and all of those who participated in courses in the early days (when things were a little chaotic), for this we’re very grateful! We received a small amount of capitol funding from Creative Scotland to help equip the workshops but we have raised the remainder (around £40,000) through courses, campaigns and events.
Edinburgh Contemporary Crafts (ECC) is the only facility in the UK that provides equipped workshops for a range of craft disciplines. There are individual facilities for printmaking, jewellery and pottery, but nothing that supports and promotes diverse craft practice. We support emerging artists, facilitate experimentation and collaboration and promote quality.
We provide 24-hour studio space with access to the workshops and through our busy course programme open up our facilities to the public, providing courses taught by professional studio holders, in a high quality, lively and creative environment. Since our inception in 2013, over 800 people have participated in courses.
